More than 100 emergency workers were called to a major incident on one of Kent’s biggest industrial estates.
Ten fire engines were at the scene in Bingham Road on Sittingbourne’s Eurolink from 11.55am on Friday (April 25) .
It’s understood a blaze started inside a unit operated by Hormozi Coffee and spread to neighbouring businesses.
Nearby residents were earlier told to close windows and doors as heavy smoke billowed from the scene. This advice was lifted nearly 12 hours later at 11.10pm.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service’s incident commander, Phil Rice, said the fire started at the coffee roasting firm and spread.
He understood three units are fire damaged and two affected by smoke.
Five ambulances were also at the scene, as well as the Environment Agency and representatives of gas and electric companies.
Firefighters blocked the junction with Swale Way and traffic in the area was being marshalled.
Speaking around 3.30pm, Mr Rice said: “Hopefully it is under control now, it’s contained and we will keep working to bring this to an end.”
Fire hoses stretching several hundred metres to the lake on the Great Easthall estate were used to supply the operation and ensure teams did not run out of water.
The fire service was also flying its drone in the area to assist crews.
The cause of the blaze is not yet known and there are no reported injuries.
Two fire engines remain at the scene and firefighters are working through the building to ensure all hotspots are fully dampened down.
Hormozi coffee has been approached for comment.
