Cocker spaniel found in Hartlip with injuries comparable to being thrown from car walks again

The cocker spaniel who was found with injuries consistent with being thrown from a moving vehicle has begun to walk again.

Beethoven was found by Swale Borough Council's dog warden in The Street, Hartlip, near Sittingbourne, on Saturday, unable to walk.

Now, after just a short stay at KareBear Kennels in Gillingham, Beethoven has been filmed walking and receiving love and attention from the business owners looking after him.

A spokesman for the council said: " Beethoven has been thriving since he has been in the care of KareBear Kennels, but he still has a long way to go.

"We are in discussions with specialists, and his next appointment is on Monday so we can focus on the steps for his treatment.

“He's being smothered in love by Billy and Kelly, the owners of Karebear Kennels, and from what they say, his tail never stops wagging.

"The video they sent us of Beethoven’s little waddle of a walk has given us so much hope for his future.

“The kennels have been fundraising to help fund the cost of his future care, and we would like to thank everyone who has donated.”

Beethoven was originally examined by Newnham Court Veterinary Hospital in Maidstone.

But over the weekend he had made minimal improvement and on Monday, KareBear kennels took him in for further investigation.

Swale council's dog warden, Mel Herbert, explained: "The X-rays left us speechless.

"The vets have said the injuries are comparable to being hit by, or being thrown out of, a moving vehicle.

"He's got spinal damage, two fractures to his tibia and many other injuries which have been left to heal without treatment.

"The most shocking part? He hasn't sustained these injuries recently – he's just been left to suffer.

"Both ourselves and the kennels will be doing everything in our power to keep him comfortable until we have a clear path for his future."

Beethoven has been aged between 18 months and two-years-old.

Mel added: "The whole situation is really horrible. He must be in so much pain but he's dealt with it for so long that he's become numb to it. There is no way he isn't in pain.

"But despite all that he is a very nice dog.

"Beethoven's tail was wagging the whole time. He was so lovely, no malice whatsoever – he deserves the help to get better."
