Moment thieves steal jet washer from Newington garage caught on camera

This is the moment two thieves brazenly walked off with an industrial jet washer.

The bright yellow Karcher hot-water cleaner was taken from the forecourt of Kent Car Centre in London Road, Newington, near Sittingbourne on Monday.

Paul Mount, 62, who was working at the garage at the time, said: "I only realised it had gone after we checked CCTV footage.

"It shows two Herberts sneaking up the drive at about 5pm.

"One unplugged it from the mains and the other disconnected the water hose before they wheeled it off the forecourt.

"We think they must have had a van or a trailer parked nearby. It is a really heavy machine and normally takes three strong men to lift it."

He added: "It is not fair stealing someone else's tools of the trade. This is a new business which is only just getting off the ground. It was brazen what they did. I am disgusted."

The washer, which has a built-in diesel-powered heater, is valued at around £3,000.

Mr Mount said: "It is almost impossible to operate without it. It can clean wheels, wheel arches and under the bonnet very quickly. We have about 80 cars on the forecourt."

Kent Car Centre is run by Sam Tatler and Ashley Whitcroft.

They moved to the new location about 18 months ago. It was previously used by West Street Cars.

A police spokesman said: "An investigation is ongoing. Officers are examining CCTV and making enquiries."
