Sneak peek inside extension of Regis Manor Primary School in Sittingbourne

A sneak peek inside an extension to a primary school has revealed how the £2 million project is reaching its conclusion.

Regis Manor Primary School in Milton Regis, part of the Swale Academies Trust, was granted permission to create another building on former playing fields.

Plans approved in 2017 asked for a new classroom building, which will be a mix of single and two-storey.

There will be four classrooms on the ground floor, a small hall and studio and reception area with group rooms, toilets and storage rooms.

Stairs and a lift will also be installed to reach three more classrooms, toilets and a group room.

Head teacher Matthew Perry said the new classrooms will allow the school to take on another class of reception children each year for the next six years, meaning it will go from being two classes per year group to three.

The expansion, costing £2.29 million, means main access will be from North Street instead of Middletune Avenue.

Mr Perry said: “We’re projecting to be finished about April or May. It’s fairly close to completion.

“The building is up with a little bit of cladding and snagging work to be done. Desks and chairs are already in there.

“We’ve been lucky with the contractor. It has worked with the school from designing health and safety posters and having the school council interview the builders.

“We will also have hall space which we hope to hire out for community use.”

The extra space means staff will be able to put on a breakfast club and after school sessions.

The new building will be connected to the existing school by a canopy and covered walkway.

A new parking and drop off layby off North Street is also part of the plans, as soon as the final go-ahead is given by Kent Highways.
