Kent Highways says the closures will be overnight between 8pm and 6am. Lay-bys along the stretch of road will also be coned off.

A spokesman said: "These measures are in the interest of road safety as contractors undertake drainage and all associated work."

Diversions will be in place. The closures, in six phases, are expected to begin on Monday, October 12.

The first phase will include both carriageways between Stockbury roundabout at the M2 Junction 5 to the B2005 Grovehurst roundabout.

The second phase will take in the Sheppey Crossing bridge to the A2500 at Cowstead roundabout followed by the section between the junction with Main Road, Queenborough, to Whiteways roundabout.

Work will carry on to the Sheerness Docks roundabout in Brielle Way and other roads.
