THE prime minister’s wife Cherie Blair paid a flying visit to Kent on Wednesday and dropped in on a pre-school.

Mrs Blair spent an hour at Poppyseeds Pre-School, part of the Murston Early Years Project at the Poppyfields Centre, off Tonge Road, Murston.

Whilst obviously supporting her husband’s General Election campaign, she was especially interested in talking to the children, staff and parents.

Project manager Lynn Jones said: “She had been due to come here some time ago but that visit had to be cancelled at the last moment.

"It was good of her to spend some time here and she presented Dot Bromley, headteacher of the neighbouring infants school, with a brochure about 10 Downing Street to give children an insight into what goes on there."

Her short trip to the town finished with lunch at the Labour party’s office in London Road.

Mrs Blair’s visit to the Poppyfields Centre comes a few months after Government Minister without Portfolio Ian McCartney was also there at the launch of the Community Hubs scheme.

The centre will be a satellite of the hub which is designed to promote community involvement in local facilties.
