Swale Foodbank is given seven-year-old's birthday presents

A seven-year-old girl with ‘a heart of gold’ has been thanked for her generosity after she handed over her birthday gifts for those less fortunate.

Neeve Donegan gave about 30 presents to Swale Foodbank while visiting with her school, The Oaks in Sittingbourne, last month.

Her mum, Jo, who grew up in Minster, on Sheppey, and now lives in Sittingbourne, said: “She really does have a heart of gold – she’s really caring and loving.

“She donated her hair last year to the Little Princess Trust and she donated a lot of presents to a children’s charity appeal.”

The 40-year-old added: “A couple of months ago, I asked Neeve if she wanted to donate her birthday presents again this year and she said yes.”

After taking an interest in the foodbank herself, Jo said she explained to her daughter what it was and said, if she wanted to donate them to it her presents would go to children who don’t get any for Christmas.

“She was really overjoyed that she would be helping other children.”

Ahead of her birthday, on November 13, Neeve wrote a note to go with her party invites telling her friends what she was going to do with her presents.

At the party, at Sittingbourne’s Merry Go Round, there was a box for people to put the gifts in.

Jo said: “She gave all the presents away from her party – we are 1,000% proud of her.”

Esther Hurwood, project manager at the foodbank, which helps people in need in Sittingbourne and on Sheppey, said: “At Swale Foodbank we are always amazed at the generosity shown by our community, but occasionally an act of extraordinary generosity catches our attention and takes our breath away – Neeve choosing to give away all of her birthday presents was definitely one of those moments. We think if the world was a little more like Neeve, it would be a very different place.

“We look after several families who are really going to struggle this Christmas season. Neeve’s generosity means we can ensure every child gets a present. We are so grateful.”
