Temporary road closure after car fire on A2 Canterbury Road in Sittingbourne

A road was closed off while emergency services responded to a car fire.

The A2 Canterbury Road in Sittingbourne, near Murston Road, was blocked off from around 4pm today.

A picture from the scene shows a burnt-out Mercedes convertible.

Shortly after the incident, an eyewitness said: “The road is closed off from the traffic lights by the Flame Grill.

“It has been shut for approximately 30 to 40 minutes.”

The road has since been reopened.

The force said: “We are currently assisting Kent Fire and Rescue Service after a car was reported to be on fire on Canterbury Road, Sittingbourne near to Murston Road at 4.09pm.”

The fire service has been contacted for more information.
