Bell Road, Sittingbourne, hit by flooding as Met Office issues weather warning

Heavy downpours today have created treacherous driving conditions around Sittingbourne.

One end of Bell Road, outside the Memorial Hospital, is reported to be particularly bad, with up to eight inches of flood water.

This is the second year in a row that torrential rain has caused problems in the area.

Bill Smith, who lives just off the street on Glovers Crescent, said: “Vehicles are coming up the road, hitting the water at 30 or 40 miles an hour.

“Someone is going to get killed - it’s really bad.

He added flooding in the area had been happening for years.

Last year, after similar problems were reported, officials from Kent County Council’s highways department discussed improving drainage infrastructure.

However, work has yet to be carried out.

The Met Office has issued an Amber weather warning for Kent until 9pm this evening.
It urges people to be aware flooding could affect homes and roads accross the county.
