Three Sittingbourne men deny murder after man dies in town centre

Three men have denied murdering a man who died after being hit by a car.

Jay David Gerrett died on Saturday, August 2, after an incident in St Michael’s Road, Sittingbourne.

It’s alleged the 32-year-old fell from a 6ft wall after being chased and was then struck by a car.

It is understood that none of the three suspects were in the vehicle.

Police and paramedics attended, and Mr Gerrett was pronounced dead at the scene.

In the following days, Jack Hunt, of Platinum Way, Borden, Chris McClean, of Pembury Court, Sittingbourne, and Daniel Martin, also of Pembury Court, were charged with murder.

Yesterday (October 14), all three men, appearing via video link at Maidstone Crown Court, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Hunt, 33, and McClean, 43, were also charged with possession of a Class A drug, namely cocaine, with intent to supply. While McClean was charged with possessing a knife.

Both men pleaded not guilty.

Martin, 37, also denied the charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Judge Philip St John-Stevens told the court, which was packed with family and friends of the deceased, that a trial, with a two to three-week time estimate, was set to start on February 24 next year and will be presided over by a High Court judge.
