Two village routes near Sittingbourne to close for road works

Part of two village routes are set to close temporarily due to road works.

The closures of Hearts Delight Road in Tunstall and Breach Lane in Upchurch, near Sittingbourne, is to allow patching and preservation works to be carried out.

Kent County Council (KCC) said both routes are set to shut from Tuesday, March 9.

A spokesman said: "To allow carriageway patching and preservation works to be carried out, KCC intends to make an order prohibiting through traffic on various roads in Swale.

"This order takes effect on or after March 9 for a period of up to 18 months or until the works have been completed."

Hearts Delight Road in Tunstall will be closed between the junctions with Wrens Road and Bredgar Road.

The alternative route is via Borden Lane, A2 London Road, A2 East Street, Church Street, Cromer Road, Tunstall Road and vice versa.

Breach Lane, Upchurch will be closed from the junction with Landrail Road to outside Home Farm.

The alternative route is via The Street, Holywell Lane and vice versa.

KCC said a temporary 20mph speed limit will also be imposed on those sections of the roads.

The spokesman added: "The 20mph speed limit applies during active works and continues for up to seven days after works have been completed, for the safety of the road users due to loose chippings."
