Residents were advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to smoke coming from an overnight blaze which firefighters are allowing to safely burn out.
Crews tackled the rubbish fire for seven hours from 10.25pm in Swale Way, Sittingbourne, before leaving it to ebb away.
Crews in four engines were called to the incident involving a large quantity of refuse.
The fire service will return to the scene this morning to assess the fire.
Police were also called.
A spokesman said: "We were notified of the incident by Kent Fire and Rescue Service at 11.35pm, but police attendance was not required."
The warning about keeping windows and doors closed was lifted at about 8am.
