M2 Stockbury roundabout roadworks cancelled after health and safety concerns

A planned road closure as part of a £92 million junction upgrade near Sittingbourne was cancelled following health and safety concerns.

The works to improve Junction 5 of the M2 at the Stockbury roundabout were scrapped following a number of incidents - including a speeding driver ploughing through traffic cones into the working area.

National Highways had planned a closure on the A249 over the weekend - but a decision was made to stop the work in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The work has been rescheduled to take place later on this year, but new dates are yet to be confirmed.

Stockbury Parish Council say residents in the village would have been affected by the ability to travel and people's access to local businesses.

But more closures are planned this weekend and will continue until the expected winter 2024 completion.
