Shane Byrne believes hype surrounding his superb record at Brands Hatch adds unnecessary pressure.

Riders head to Brands for round six of the British Superbike Championship this weekend.

Sittingbourne man Shakey has won his last seven races on the long circuit at his home track and is expected to build on his 32-point lead in the standings.

The 36-year-old loves the Kent circuit but is staying calm amid all the talk.

He said: "Don’t get me wrong, I love Brands Hatch but it’s just another race weekend. I’ve read a lot of stuff about how it’s my home track and this winning streak we’re on but it adds pressure that doesn’t need to be there.

"It’s 30 minutes from my house but it’s just round six of the championship. It’s not the Showdown and it won’t decide who wins or loses the title.

"You look at websites and riders are saying they want to beat me in my own backyard. If that’s what they need to motivate themselves, that’s fine.

"It’s no big deal to me. I’m just going to do my own thing."
