Action at Sittingbourne’s Central Park should have got underway this week, with the Kent Open Chase originally scheduled on their new Wednesday evening slot.

Speedway is out though until mid-June, at the earliest, because of coronavirus. The club are still keen to engage their youngest fans, however, and have two competitions for kids to enter.

Naming the new club mascot is one of them.

The club said: “In these difficult times our new mystery No. 8 has been struggling to keep fit.

“Having signed several weeks ago he or indeed she, has been sitting at home getting frustrated with his/her delayed introduction to Kent Speedway fans.

“A big thank you to Ian Hyland at Specsavers, Tunbridge Wells who was instrumental in this major signing. However we have the unusual situation where our latest signing refuses to reveal their identity (and isn't going to 'lion' about their name - it's a matter of pride, I guess..!)

If you can think of a name for the new mascot then send your suggestion to competition@kingsandroyals.co.uk. Entries need to be with the club by the end of the month.

The winner will receive a free VIP evening, complimentary entry into the £100 club (when the season starts) and a free Kings/Royals Replica shirt.

The club also run their own fan club for kids - the Munchkings - which is free to join.

Members can take part in an Easter competition which was due to be held at the track during the Bank Holiday visit of Leicester, which has now been postponed. The competition is being held remotely instead.

MunchKings are being asked to decorate a hard boiled egg as a favourite rider from either the Kings or the Royals, or both!

Pictures need to be sent to munchkings@kent-speedway.com by midnight on Easter Sunday (April 12th).

Riders from both teams will be judging the eggs and the top three will be announced and will receive a prize. All MunchKings will get a gift for entering. Both competitions are open to all.
