Family firm Culverwells is on the Leigh Green Industrial Estate in Appledore Road and was targeted at 10.45pm last night.

The front doors to the firm were also towed out and a manager discovered the break-in after security alarms were triggered. CCTV installed at the premises captured the whole raid and has been passed to police. It's estimated that the stolen equipment is worth around £6k.

Employee John Emerson said the five-strong team at the depot were left 'gutted' by the theft so shortly after Christmas. He said: "It's gutting that people think they've got a right to break-in somewhere and take what they want. It seems to be the way of the modern world that we live in."

Culverwells was established in 1932 and has a head office in Robertsbridge. Director James Cole said: "We had a very similar incident last year. Lots of businesses like ours are affected. Some people want money at this time of year and they go about stealing other people's possessions."

A police spokesman said: "We were called at around 10.45pm on Sunday, December 29 to a report that commercial premises in Appledore Road, Tenterden had been burgled.

"A number of tools including chainsaws, strimmers and hedge cutters were reported stolen."
