Edvard Munch's The Scream found in log at Big Cat Sanctuary in Smarden

A couple of volunteers made an interesting discovery when chopping logs - a likeness of Edvard Munch's The Scream.

Ian Suitters and Russell Davies were in the middle of volunteering for The Big Cat Sanctuary in Smarden yesterday when they saw it.

Ian, 65, said: "We were at either end of the log and when he chainsawed it both of us went 'Blimey, that looks just like The Scream'.

"I thought that people need cheering up at the moment and everyone likes seeing strange things, so I sent it in."

The men were in the middle of chopping up trees which had been cleared to make way for a new electrical supply.

Mr Suitters, who lives near Vinters Park in Maidstone, has been helping out at the sanctuary for more than two years.

He said: "It's really enjoyable work, I get to see the cats every week and it gives me a bit of exercise."

When asked whether he'd ever seen any strange images in things before, he said: "Not really, I've never found Jesus in a bowl of cornflakes or anything like that."

However famous faces have popped up in odd places around the county for decades.
