Margate slipped to a 1-0 defeat against AFC Hornchurch in the Ryman League Premier Division on Saturday.
John Keister and Wayne Wilson took charge of team affairs following the resignation of Mark Butler earlier in the week.
And they saw their side beaten by a scrappy 17th minute goal when Joe Flack squeezed the ball home from a goalmouth scramble.
A minute later the home side should have doubled their advantage when they were awarded a penalty but Flack’s spot-kick was saved by Gate keeper Luke Garrard.
Margate though they had equalised with 20 minutes left when Aaron Lacey’s throw-on was headed back by Joe Healey to Jack Haverson on the 18 yard line. Haverson headed the ball home only for the goal to ruled out for offside.
Gate played some good football in the second half and will be disappointed to have returned home empty-handed.
