Apple TV filming in Ramsgate - but sadly Tom Cruise isn't

Apple TV has been filming on the Kent coast - but rumours Tom Cruise was among the cast on set have sadly been scotched.

The reports on social media of the Hollywood megastar being in Ramsgate came as a production company took over the Royal Harbour Brasserie on the end of the east pier for a shoot.

Gabrielle Lindemann from the Kent Film Office, which helps source locations for shoots in the county and issues permits, confirmed the filming is for the streaming service. But she said Cruise is not involved.

That was also confirmed by a location manager for a production company which is involved in the project.

Now we can reveal the filming is for a "a high-stakes, contemporary thriller" starring Black Swan and Westworld actor Vincent Cassel and BAFTA award winner Eva Green.

Called 'Liason', it is the first French and English-language Apple original for streamer Apple TV Plus and directed by Emmy award winner Stephen Hopkins.

Posting on its Facebook page, the Royal Harbour Brasserie owners said: "This Saturday/Sunday [June 26-27], the Brasserie is closed to the public.

"An international streaming network are making a restaurant scene and we were delighted to take part which will help promote Ramsgate internationally.

"Sorry to all my clients but we all agree this is a great exciting opportunity that benefits the promotion of Ramsgate."

They also posted a picture of the interior of the restaurant with the caption "ready for the shoot" and an exterior with a new sign Annick's Cafe and Brassiere, for the filming.

Bosses later told Kent Online: "They filmed a restaurant scene at the Brassiere.

"It was great and good to promote the area. We had a member of staff there for two days looking after them."

Tom Cruise has been filming scenes in the UK for the latest Mission Impossible movie in the Peak District, Yorkshire and at studios in Surrey.
