Bomb disposal teams at Minnis Bay as beach cordoned off after wartime device found

Police cordoned off a section of beach to allow for bomb disposal teams to move in.

A suspected wartime device was unearthed today at Minnis Bay, Birchington, and subsequently blown up by experts.

Officers set up a cordon and moved people off the beach, near The Parade, as a precaution.

Specialist Army teams were brought in and surveyed the unexploded bomb before safely disposing it.

A force spokesman said: "Police was called at 12.10pm on Monday 29 June 2020 to a report of a suspected wartime munition near The Parade, Minnis Bay, Birchington."
