Broadstairs: Habbib Shayegani scoops £65,000 prize at Grosvenor Casino with £1 bet

A taxi driver worried about footing the bill for his broken-down cab was left lost for words after turning £1 into £65,000 at a casino.

Habbib Shayegani, 66, secured the jackpot playing his favourite card game, Crazy 4, at Grosvenor Casino at Westwood Cross, near Broadstairs.

He has been a member of the casino for more than 20 years, but this is his biggest win to date.

The £64,864 windfall could not have come at a better time for Mr Shayegani as his taxi was in need of repair following an engine failure.

The father-of-two, who lives in Broadstairs with his wife Vida, is now looking forward to buying a new car for his business, as well as celebrating his winnings with his family in Manchester where his sons go to university.

Mr Shayegeni, who works for taxi firm Central Cars, said: "I've been a member of Grosvenor Casino Thanet for more than 20 years but never in my life have I won an amount of money like this before.

"My family were so excited for me but at the time I just couldn't believe it.

"I was worried about how I was going to pay for my taxi to be repaired before this, but now I can relax and will be looking to buy a new car for my business soon as well as celebrating with my family."

Natalie Kelly, general manager of Grosvenor Casino Thanet, said: "We're delighted for Mr Shayegani, it's always great to see our guests come away with a jackpot win.

"He is a club favourite and as a loyal customer, this is very well-deserved."
