St Laurence-in-Thanet Church memorial garden in Ramsgate 'desecrated' by vandals

A memorial garden has been "desecrated" after headstones and ornaments were destroyed by yobs.

The vandalism at St Laurence-in-Thanet Church in Ramsgate High Street took place overnight between 5pm on Monday and the following morning.

Graffiti was also found, tribute flowers were removed and police say there were signs a fire had been lit near a wooden bench.

Chief Insp Ed Ruffle said: "We take a dim view of those who wantonly cause criminal damage, and we appreciate how people will feel when they hear the memorial garden has been desecrated.

"Officers have attended the scene and inquiries are continuing in order to identify those responsible."

Officers are urging with information or CCTV footage that might assist their investigation to call them on 01843 222289, quoting the reference number 46/120860/20, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
