Cyclist injured in apparent hit and run on A299 Thanet Way near Monkton

A cyclist has been hospitalised after a suspected hit and run last night.

The accident happened on the A299 Thanet Way between Monkton and Minster at around 8pm.

An eyewitness said the man, who was riding a push bike, was thrown into the air after being struck by a car on the dual carriageway.

Police are now searching for the driver of the car, who then failed to stop.

The cyclist's injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 8.13pm on 6 October 2018 after a man on a push bike was injured on the A299, near Monkton.

"It is reported that a car had been in a collision with the bike and that the driver left the scene.

"Officers and the South East coast Ambulance Service attended and the man was taken to a local hospital with injuries which are not life threatening.

"The road was reopened at around 11pm."
