A disabled woman has been rescued from mud off Seasalter

A woman stuck in mud a quarter of a mile off the coast has been rescued by the Coastguard.

Herne Bay, Margate and Sheppey Coastguard Rescue Teams were all called out as was the Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

The woman, who had mobility difficulties, was transferred from her specially adapted off road mobility buggy onto a mud rescue sledge and recovered using a portable winch, to safe firm ground nearby and then transferred to KFRS all-terrain buggy which took her to the shore.

The mobility buggy was then recovered, and all team members and equipment were transferred back to shore assisted by the all-terrain buggy.

The woman and her husband had been enjoying walking their dogs as they have done on numerous occasions in the area with her specially adapted off road mobility buggy without incident.

Unfortunately, this time they encountered some very soft ground and the buggy became bogged down in the vicinity of Seasalter Sailing Club.

The husband was unable to free the buggy, or his wife so called for assistance.
