Southeastern cancels and delays trains to Faversham, Ashford, Canterbury and Margate after emergency repairs at Ramsgate railway station

All lines have reopened after several hours of delays and cancellations for train passengers due to emergency repairs.

Southeastern said an issue arose at Ramsgate railway station early this morning, requiring the power to be turned off while engineers worked to fix it.

The power was switched back on at about 7am, and trains resumed from Ramsgate to Ashford International via Dover and Canterbury West.

But services were unable to run between Margate and Ramsgate for several hours, while trains to Ashford International via Canterbury West and Dover Priory were heavily delayed.

A bus replacement service was operating on the Ramsgate to Faversham line.

A spokesperson for Network Rail said: “Due to a fault identified with the conductor rail, which powers electricity to the railway in the Ramsgate area, train services running through this section of the network may be delayed, cancelled or revised.

“Our engineers are working at pace to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”

All lines had reopened by 2pm, but Southeastern warned passengers to expect delays and alterations to services.
