Four fire crews battled a blaze at a Sure Start centre.

Crews were called to the Growing Together childcare centre in Princess Margaret Avenue, Ramsgate at around 4.30am and spent around six hours extinguishing flames and clearing smoke.

They entered the back of the building wearing breathing apparatus and used main hose jets to bring the fire under control.

Parents of children that attend the centre are advised that it will not be opening today and should make contact with them for further information.

Newington Community Primary School which is on the same site is unaffected and will be opening as usual.

There have been no reported injuries and the cause is not yet known.
