Funeral appeal for boy, 4, who died in Margate bus tragedy at QEQM Hospital reaches £6,000

A fundraiser for a four-year-old boy who “fell under” a bus outside a hospital and died has raised more than £6,000 in a day.

Zaahir Jan had been visiting his nan at the QEQM in Margate on Thursday afternoon (August 7) when the tragedy unfolded near the entrance to A&E.

Despite desperate efforts to revive him, he could not be saved.

A GoFundMe appeal was launched by his grieving mum, Azaria Green, which has since raised thousands of pounds for the heartbroken family.

“I wish you were in my bed tonight, cuddling,” his mum wrote. “I love you, my boy.”

She says Zaahir “fell under” the bus and “died immediately”.

“I am so lost. He was my son, my most beautiful little Jan,” she added.

“I don’t know what to do. I can’t believe you are gone from me. I can’t believe they couldn’t save you. I can’t believe this happened.

“I didn’t even get to tell you how much I love you.”

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 4pm on Thursday.

Ramsgate Road outside the hospital was sealed off in both directions for several hours before reopening at about 6.45pm.

An air ambulance was seen landing nearby as medics battled to save the child’s life.

A witness described how police moved drivers away from the hospital entrance as the scene was secured.

Police say the bus, a white single-decker Stagecoach vehicle, was travelling near the entrance to A&E, and that the boy left the hospital on foot before the collision took place.

Now, mum Azaria is appealing for donations to give her little boy the farewell he deserves.

“Please, if anyone can help us to make his burial as beautiful as he was, please, I will be so grateful,” she wrote on the GoFundMe page.

“Everyone is devastated, but that word doesn’t feel like enough to explain how we are all feeling.

“Our sweet, funny boy with a cheeky smile that could make anyone’s heart full.

“The smile that we can’t see again. Can’t hold him. Can’t cuddle him. Can’t hear him. Can’t have him sleeping in my bed tonight.

“But I can try to give him the best and most comfortable burial.

“My baby, I wish you were in my bed tonight, cuddling. I love you, my boy.”

Little Zaahir’s death is the second tragedy to rock the family within days.

Azaria’s sister-in-law, Taz Green, was found dead by her teenage son on Sunday – the day before she was set to celebrate her 52nd birthday.

Her daughter, Kyia Palmer, spoke of the family’s devastation following the death of her young cousin.

“It is unbelievable. He was so tiny,” she told KentOnline.

“They were at the hospital visiting my nan, my step-dad’s mum.
