Coronavirus: Pupil at Chatham and Clarendon Grammar School in Ramsgate in self-isolation after father diagnosed with Covid-19

A grammar school pupil is in self-isolation after their father was diagnosed with coronavirus.

The child, who attends Chatham and Clarendon Grammar School in Ramsgate, does not have the disease, but the school has notified other parents that as a precaution the student is self-isolating.

A staff member who was in direct contact with the pupil is also self-isolating having taken advice from Public Health England.

A small number of students are doing the same as a precautionary measure due to contact with family or friends who have visited from Northern Italy.

School business manager Chris Freeman stressed that no-one in the school has the disease.

"We notified parents this morning to say that a student is in self-isolation following guidance from Public Health England," he said.

"The student's father has been diagnosed with coronavirus but there is no coronavirus in school so we are open and continuing as normal."

He says unless there is notification from PHE the school will stay open.
