Huge fire destroys play equipment at St Peter’s Recreation Ground in Broadstairs

Play equipment has been destroyed by a huge fire near a rugby club ground.

Firefighters descended on the play area in St Peter’s Park, Callis Court Road, Broadstairs, last night.

The incident happened near the Thanet Wanderers RFC ground.

A video shared on social media shows play equipment engulfed in flames shortly before 9.30pm.

Images were shared this morning showing the charred remains of the apparatus.

A fire spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a fire in a play area in Callis Court Road, Broadstairs.

“One fire engine attended and crews used main jets to extinguish the flames.

“There are no reported injuries and the cause is unknown.”
