Broadstairs: Thousands raised for Tommy's charity in baby's memory

An inspirational woman who lost her baby during labour has led a fundraising campaign which has gone international.

Carina Neeves organised a charity walk in memory of Florence Grace, who died during labour at QEQM Hospital.

Although the official route was from George VI memorial park in Ramsgate to Sir Stanley Gray in Broadstairs, others took on a similar walk in other parts of Kent, as well as in Lincolnshire, Dubai, Australia, and even on a cruise liner in Madeira.

The 36-year-old and partner Mark Taylor, 41, of Broadstairs, have been piecing their lives back together after losing Florence on April 26.

They decided to hold the walk on Sunday, September 9, to help others and draw in donations for Tommy’s charity - with almost £6,000 already received on the JustGiving page.

Miss Neeves said: “History was made. Family, friends, communities and angel mummies and daddies came together to walk in loving memory of our beautiful Florence Grace.

“People stood side by side across all corners of the world and walked in Florence’s memory.

“We came together to celebrate Florence’s life and also the life of those precious angels no longer with us.

“Smiles and tears were shared and together we stood strong for our angel babies and to support one another.

“Thank you to everyone for your love, support and kindness.

“We are so overwhelmed for all you have done and we are sorry we cannot thank you all individually, from the bottom of our hearts we are truly grateful to you all.

“I am so proud that my baby Florence Grace has touched so many hearts and left such a special legacy.

“Florence will live on within all our hearts forever - fly high princess.”

Tommy’s charity funds research into pregnancy problems to save babies’ lives.

“Final figures will be confirmed shortly once all donations are received,” Miss Neeves added.

“But currently we are estimating that overall we have raised more than a staggering a £6,000 for Tommy’s charity.”

“This will fund awareness and essential research into causes and prevention of miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth.

“We hope our donations will help prevent this heartache for future mothers and families.”
