Co-op attempted robbery and theft from Margate Boots among charges for Richard Champion

A man has been slapped with a number of charges including an attempted robbery at a Co-op and stealing £702 worth of cosmetics from Boots.

Richard Champion, of Margate, is alleged to have tried to rob the mini supermarket in Station Road, Westgate, on March 13.

The 27-year-old was arrested 11 days later and charged with one count of attempted robbery and possession of a knife in a public place.

He was also charged with a range of other offences carried out across March - including pinching an estimated £200 worth of meat and other items from a Co-op store in Grange Road, Ramsgate.

The Oxford Street resident is also charged with stealing £702 worth of cosmetics from Boots in Margate high street, as well as damaging a police vehicle in Margate, and carrying out a public order offence in Dane Park.

Champion appeared via virtual link at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where he was remanded in custody.

He will next appear at crown court, at a date yet to be set.
