Fire in Canterbury Road in Margate

A person was looked after by paramedics after a fire at a comercial premises.

Fire crews were called to Canterbury Road in Margate at around 1pm.

Two fire engines and paramedics attended the scene. One person was passed to paramedics for precautionary checks after suffering slight smoke inhalation.

The fire is believed to have started accidentally when electrics overheated and set fire to stacks of papers that were against the wiring.

A spokesman for the service said: "Following the incident, crews are reminding residents and businesses not to overload plug sockets or extension leads, and to ensure any electrical item is in good working order before use.

"It’s also best not to store flammable objects too close to wiring."
