Woman in 70s dies after being hit by car at pedestrian crossing on A28 Canterbury Road, Westgate-on-Sea

A woman has died and another is seriously injured after they were hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing.

The collision happened on the A28 Canterbury Road, at its junction with St Mildreds Road, in Westgate-on-Sea at 5.06pm last night.

A blue Ford Fiesta was travelling towards Margate when it was involved in a collision with the two women who were walking across the carriageway, at a traffic light-controlled pedestrian crossing. The vehicle stopped at the scene.

One woman, in her 70s, died at the scene.

The second was treated for injuries and then taken to hospital, where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Officers are now appealing to anyone who saw the crash.

A police spokesman said: “Serious collision investigators are appealing to any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police to come forward.

“Anyone who saw what happened, or who may have relevant dashcam or CCTV footage, should call the appeal line on 01622 798538 quoting reference EX/YP/003/25.

There was a huge emergency response to the incident, which saw the busy route shut for several hours.
