Police were called to reports of a couple having sex on a beach in broad daylight, leaving onlookers stunned.

Officers were called at 3.50pm on Sunday to Ramsgate Main Sands.

It had been reported that two people were seen romping close to the promenade.

A concerned parent raised the alarm after their daughter reported seeing the inappropriate encounter unfold.

They claimed the pair had been canoodling together in public before engaging in further lewd activity.

Kent got some of its first warm spell of the year over the weekend, with temperatures of about 15C on Sunday.

A police spokesman said: “At 3.50pm on Sunday, March 9, we received a report that a suspected indecent act had been carried out by two people on Ramsgate beach a short time earlier.

“Officers attended and an area search was carried out to ensure the incident was no longer ongoing.”

The amorous couple had reportedly left the scene by the time officers arrived.
