Ramsgate returns to the screen in a new television series on the Comedy Central satellite and cable channel from Wednesday at 9pm.

Both the port town and Herne Bay a few miles around the coast are locations for Big Bad World, both doubling as Great Yarmouth.

The show stars Blake Harrison, from The Inbetweeners, as university graduate Ben Turnbell who returns home to Great Yarmouth to find that not much has changed while he has been away.

Other familiar faces include Seann Walsh (Argumental), Rebecca Humphries (Come Fly with Me), Caroline Quentin (Men Behaving Badly) and James Fleet (Vicar of Dibley).

The Big Bad World team was welcomed to Ramsgate in May 2012 to film the pilot episode at locations including King Street, Queen Street, High Street, Harbour Street and the Port of Ramsgate.

The Kent Film Office used its Filming on Highways Act to close the Royal Esplanade in Ramsgate for a scene where the main character leaves the beach soaking wet and gets into a car.

After the series was commissioned, the production team returned in November and, with the help of Kent County Council’s film office and Thanet District Council, again filmed in Ramsgate. Other scenes were filmed at Haine Road in Ramsgate. At the harbour, footage was recorded of oil rig workers arriving and boarding a vessel.

Thanet council’s Cllr Michelle Fenner said: “We are delighted that Ramsgate was lucky enough to be chosen for the coast scenes for Big Bad World.

“With loads of help from Kent Film Office, the district council was able to accommodate all the requests from the crew to film in and around Ramsgate. We hope the show is a great success as we would be happy to welcome the crew back to film in the town.”

Ramsgate Harbour has been previously used for BBC sitcom Not Going Out (2013) and the town has provided back drops for productions such as True Love (2012), Johnny English Reborn (2011) and Ruby Blue (2008).
