The shop's windows were smashed and a wall outside was damaged.

Police closed the road while paramedics attended the scene.

The male driver was not seriously injured but the car has been badly damaged.

Although the shop is still owned by Gore Bros funeral directors and has its signage outside, it is now occupied by All Sign Solutions.

No staff were in the building at the time of the incident.

Gore Bros partner Philip Gore said: "Apart from a bit of storage, we haven't used the building for 20 years. There's a bit of damage which the insurers will have to sort out.

"Bricks and mortar can be put right. The main thing is that no one was badly injured.
