By Katie Davis

Loud bangs and tremors have been experienced by people living in towns across the north Kent coast today.

Residents of Margate, Ramsage, Whitstable and Herne Bay have reported hearing rumbles throughout the morning.

But there is a likely simple explanation for this, with the MoD Shoeburyness confirming it is active today.

The weapons testing site in south east Essex, run by QinetiQ warns on its website that 'explosions may be noticed' until Friday (May 10).

A statement on the range's website says those living or working in the vicinity of Thames Estuary coastline may notice "from time to time when work is being conducted."

It reads: "QinetiQ is aware of this and does everything possible to minimise any negative impact on communities in the area while continuing to meet the demands of the MoD to deliver citical support to UK Armed Services."
