Police shut A28 Canterbury Road in Westgate-on-Sea after serious crash

A busy route is closed in both directions after a huge emergency response to a serious crash.

Multiple police, ambulance and fire vehicles are at the scene on the A28 Canterbury Road in Westgate-on-Sea - between Birchington and Margate.

Reports suggest one vehicle was involved near Minster Road.

A police spokesman said: “We were called at around 5.05pm following a serious collision on the A28 Canterbury Road in Westgate-on-Sea.

“Officers are currently in attendance and a road closure is in place.”

Police later confirmed a woman died and another was seriously injured after they were hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing.

The collision happened on the A28 Canterbury Road, at its junction with St Mildreds Road, in Westgate-on-Sea at 5.06pm last night.
