Birchington road closed as crews battle house fire

A road was sealed off as seven fire engines battled a large house blaze close to the Kent coast.

Emergency services were called to Minnis Road, Birchington, just before 3.10pm after the flames ignited inside a property with a thatched roof in Minnis Road, Birchington.

The blaze at the property, close to the junction with Grenham Bay Avenue, is thought to have been caused by an electrical fault.

A fire service spokesman said seven fire engines and a bulk water carrier attended and that crews wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze.

"There are no reported injuries," they added.

"The blaze is believed to have started due to an electrical fault."

Police sealed off Minnis Road between its junctions with Ethelbert Road and Saint Mildred's Avenue after being called out at 3.30pm.

The road has since been reopened and the officers have been stood down.

The fire service recorded a stop time of 5.49pm.
