Speciality tea and Hong Kong snack shop to open in Broadstairs

A plan for a new snack shop and café serving speciality teas in Broadstairs has been given the green light by council planners.

Applicant Ho Yuen Man wants to turn the Thirty Nine Steps Delicatessen in Charlotte Street into BeMeTea, a Taiwan Tea and Hong Kong snack shop.

In his planning statement, he says he wants to serve deserts, coffee and speciality teas.

"This new café space will be aimed at the general public, the sales will concentrate on specialist teas and other desert beverages," he wrote to Thanet District Council.

"This shop brings the opportunity to introduce speciality tea and beverages into Broadstairs which have become increasingly popular in the UK."

The shop, which currently serves lunches and other take-away deli food, will generally be open from 9am to 5pm although the owner has specified he would like to open earlier to serve tea and coffee.

Thanet District Council planners have approved the proposals, including new signage.
