A leading shoe retailer is in line to move into a huge shopping centre after Superdrug confirmed it will shut next month.
Skechers is set to move into Westwood Cross in Broadstairs later this year, though an exact opening date is yet to be confirmed.
But the brand has revealed it will look to put up signage towards the end of September following a refurb of the unit by shopping centre bosses.
Official planning papers submitted to Thanet District Council (TDC) this month, state: “The unit is currently occupied by Superdrug.
“The landlord is stripping back the unit and installing a new shop front with double-height glazing.
“All these works are subject to their own planning application. Upon completion, the unit will be occupied by Skechers”.
American entrepreneur Robert Greenberg founded the company in 1992, and has since built an $8.97 billion global brand, with more than 5,000 stores worldwide.
Its latest move will create the American footwear company’s fifth store in Kent, with shops in Bluewater Shopping Centre, Maidstone, Ashford and Canterbury all currently open.
The firm offers a variety of footwear for men, women, and children, alongside apparel such as leisure and sports wear.
Meanwhile, Superdrug has told KentOnline it will bring the shutters down on its current shop in May, with their move to another unit soon following.
Westwood Cross chiefs have put in a bid to install a new shopfront window with new doors and LED lighting.
Submitted in February, a decision will be made on the scheme in the coming weeks.
Westwood Cross and Skechers have been contacted for comment.
