Girl, 13, appears at Canterbury Youth Court accused of attacking schoolgirl in Margate

A 13-year-old girl is to appear at crown court accused of attacking a schoolgirl after the alleged offence was deemed too serious for youth court.

The teenager - who can't be named for legal reasons because of her age - spoke only to confirm her name and date of birth at Canterbury Youth Court this morning after being charged with wounding a 12-year-old with intent last November.

Mobile phone footage of the reported assault in Arlington Gardens, Margate, which had previously been widely circulated on social media, was shown to the court.

The victim was walking home from school at about 3.30pm on Thursday, November 29 when she was allegedly knocked unconscious in the street.

She was taken to hospital for treatment for head injuries.

Prosecutor Julie Fairbrace briefly described the attack, before advising the panel that the "video will explain".

Laurence Gallagher, heading the panel, agreed with representations to send the case to Crown court.

The 13-year-old girl was released on conditional bail. She will appear at Canterbury Crown Court in March.

Two 15-year-olds were also arrested, with one released without charge and the second still under investigation.
