Acclaimed artist Tracey Emin returns to her home town to launch her first exhibition at the Turner Contemporary gallery.

And she confessed: "Even in my wildest dreams I could never have believed there would be a gallery like Turner Contemporary there. So on one level I’m really chuffed and excited but on another I am as nervous as hell."

She Lay Down Deep Beneath The Sea highlights her racy side and focuses on the themes of love, sex and romanticism.

It features new works including drawings, monoprints, sculptures, tapestries, embroideries and neons, and has been specially created for the area where she grew up and which has provided inspiration for many of her art works.

Miss Emin, whose notable works include Everyone I Have Ever Slept With 1963-1995 and the Turner Prize nominee My Bed, said: "This show is a homecoming for me. I want everyone to come to Margate for the summer. I want people to come off the train, see the show and then go and have an ice cream on the beach."

The exhibition opens tomorrow, Saturday May 26, and runs until September 23.
