Trains delayed after asylum seekers trespass on tracks in Broadstairs

Trains were disrupted after asylum seekers trespassed on the tracks.

Police were called to help Border Force agents after the individuals were first spotted in Margate at about 5.30am.

They were then seen close to the railway line in Broadstairs an hour later.

A police spokesman said: "We assisted Border Force and other partner agencies after suspected migrants were reported in Margate at around 5.30am and in Broadstairs at around 6.30am."

It is understood that a number of suspected asylum seekers were located.

Southeastern warned customers this morning that their journeys could be delayed due to the incident.

The firm confirmed that the line had been cleared by 8.30am.

The Home Office has been approached for comment.
