On Twitter, rail firm Southeastern wrote: "We've been advised of a trespasser near the railway near Margate which means that trains cannot currently move through the station.

"The power has been switched off at Margate so that response staff can access the track so trains are currently at a stand and unable to move through the area."

British Transport Police was called to an area of railway near Ramsgate Road in Margate at about 5.10pm, following concerns about a woman's welfare.
