Two hurt as fire engine overturns

TWO Thanet firefighters were slightly injured when the platform ladder engine they were in overturned on the way to a 999 call (Karina Hodder writes).

The accident happened at the Pearce Signs roundabout at Westwood, near Broadstairs on Saturday night.

The road was blocked for six hours as lifting equipment was brought in to move the vehicle.

The crew from Thanet station was on its way to flats in Marine Terrace, Margate, where a smell of burning had been reported.

Another crew from outside the area was deployed, but it turned out to be a false alarm.
