We shall remember them - Remembrance Day in Thanet

This Sunday morning sees a number of Remembrance Day parades taking place when dozens of poppy wreaths will be laid at war memorials around Thanet.

Roads will be closed at different times between 10am and 1pm to allow the parades to make their way to and from the memorials.

The Margate procession will leave from St Paul’s Road, Cliftonville, and head along Northdown Road to the memorial at Trinity Gardens for the service. Afterwards, the parade will walks along King Street to Margate harbour, Market Street, Lombard Street and to College Square car park for dismissal.

In Ramsgate, the town’s parade will assemble outside the Ramsgate social club in Elms Avenue, before heading to Queen Street, the High Street and Church Hill to St George’s church. It returns in a similar direction but turns to dismiss outside council offices in Argyle Centre.

In Broadstairs, the High Street from the junction with Queens Road to Carlton Avenue will be closed as the parade makes its way to the memorial outside Pierremont Hall.

In Birchington, the parade will assemble in Alpha Road car park to march to the memorial at the village square by All Saints church. The junction with Park Lane and Canterbury Road will be closed off at this time. Afterwards, the parade forms up in Kent Gardens to make the return to Albion Road.

In Westgate, Westgate Bay Avenue will be closed along with St Mildred’s Road and part of Sea Road for a service at the memorial close to the seafront.

In St Peter’s, those taking part in the parade will be heading along Green Lane, turning left into St Peter’s High Street to St Peter’s parish church.
