Arrests at animal rights protest at Charles River laboratory in Manston, Thanet

Two women have been arrested after an animal rights demonstration outside a testing laboratory in Kent.

Police were called to Charles River in Manston Road, near Ramsgate , at 11.20am yesterday to reports of a protest.

Photographs from the scene appeared to show two people dressed in white bodysuits, sitting in front of the entrance to the building .

Police have now confirmed two people were arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespass following the protest yesterday.

A police spokesman said: "Officers attended to speak to those involved and two women, both in their 40s, were later arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespass."

The women were arrested at about 6.30pm, and officers are believed to have left the site by about 10.15pm.

Both women have since been bailed until October 15.
