Defender Ollie Boulding leaves Ebbsfleet United to join Margate

Margate have completed their third signing in as many days with the capture of defender Ollie Boulding from Ebbsfleet United.

The 20-year-old's arrival follows that of goalkeeper Henry Newcombe on Wednesday, and midfielder Lee Prescott, 24 hours later.

Boulding was highly regarded at Stonebridge Road where he progressed through the ranks from the club’s academy into the first team.

He has been part of Daryl McMahon's first team squad for the past two seasons.

Gate joint manager, Mike Sandmann is delighted to have strengthened the club's defensive options for the 2018/19 Bostik Premier campaign.

He said: “Ollie is a great signing for us, he’s an energetic, athletic and quick right-back who I think will slot well into our defensive line-up.

“Steve (joint manager Steve Brown) and I are keen to blend youth and experienced players into the team and we’re pleased Ollie decided to sign with us. It’s been another good week in terms of shaping our squad and hopefully fans are pleased with the progress being made.”

Keeper Newcombe will complete his switch to the Blues from Wycombe Wanderers from July 1.

The 20-year-old came through the ranks at Gillingham having joined the club aged nine.

He was awarded his first professional contract at Priestfield in 2016 and after a year moved to Wycombe. While there he enjoyed a successful loan spell with Canvey Island

Newcombe admitted the club's vision for the future was a key factor in deciding to move to Hartsdown Park.

He said: "I am excited that I have agreed terms to join Margate. I had a number of options for the upcoming season but as soon as I knew of Margate's interest, they were the club I wanted to join. The club are putting together a good side, I am looking forward to being part of it, and cannot wait to get started."

Prescott is the sixth member of last season's squad to commit to another year and joint boss Sandmann revealed the Blues had to fight off competition from several other clubs to re-sign him.

He said: “Steve and I are pleased that Lee has agreed to stay with us at Margate. He had plenty of offers to move elsewhere but wants to be a part of what we have built for the upcoming season.

"He’s another fantastic character to have in the dressing room and I know fans will be delighted to have him confirmed for another year at Hartsdown Park.”

Prescott added: "I’m very pleased to be signing for Margate for a second season. The team is looking strong, so I’m excited for the challenge of pushing for promotion.”
