Ramsgate's former Gillingham striker Roman Campbell ruled out for six to eight weeks with an ankle injury

Ramsgate striker Roman Campbell has been ruled out for up to eight weeks – but that’s a lot better than first feared.

Campbell missed a late penalty in Saturday’s FA Cup defeat to Chipstead and injured his ankle when trying to retrieve the rebound.

Ramsgate boss Matt Longhurst feared the young forward could miss most of the season so he’s relatively pleased that he could be back in six to eight weeks.

“It’s a massive relief,” said Longhurst. “He is only 20 and you don’t want the boy to be out for a long time.

“He’s come here looking to re-ignite his career.

“It’s not ideal, of course, to sign a forward and then on the back of it to lose Kane Rowland to Sittingbourne.

“But I’m pleased that Roman is not going to miss as much as we first thought. He is an important part of what we are doing.”
